Kim Petras

Kim Petras (born August 27, 1992) is a German-born singer and songwriter, currently based in LA.

Petras first gained attention in 2006, when she was 13, for discussing her gender transition and promoting transgender rights in Germany. At the age of 16, Petras was the youngest known woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery.

She released a handful of songs online between 2008 and 2011, and moved to LA in 2013 to work with producers such as The Stereotypes and Aaron Joseph. After writing music for herself and others for several years, Petras joined forces with veteran songwriter and producer Dr. Luke, signing to his Prescription Songs publishing company.

In August of 2017, Petras released “I Don’t Want It At All,” followed by sporadic other singles for the next two years. She released a Halloween-themed EP, TURN OFF THE LIGHT, VOL. 1 in October 2018, followed by a sequel EP the following year.

Her Clarity project was released in 2019, preceded by the release of several singles. In 2020, she referred to her untitled upcoming project as her “debut album” in an interview with Interview Mag. It is expected for release in 2021, and to include 2020 single “Malibu.”
