dirrtyremixes:

server speed optimization

some gibberish nonsense you might not understand or care...
okay, so for the past week, the site has been experiencing a lot of slowness. And with the spike of traffic, it's not making things any better. so for the next few days, i will be to play around with the server. Unfortunately, I will on all fours and my hands are probably gonna get very dirrty (urm, it's all dirrty to begin with, lol). Yeah, I really have to go deep down to see what's causing the slowness and at the same time install new server services to increase performance & speeds and not forgetting improvement in caching methods. At the moment, we already have 2 levels of caching - one using a wordpress plugin and another method created by me. I might even have to add another method of caching. On the site, current we have caching in place for "download counts" and "play counts". That's why the download statistic always seem constant or stuck at 0 for a long span of time (up to 2 hours or maybe more). It doesn't mean nobody is visiting the site or is nobody is playing any of the tracks. You're be surprised by the number of actual downloads we get a day! it's crazy high! Back to topic: I already done a lot of reading and have a game plan, so don't worry! You will still get the best dirrty experience* as always.

So if you see weird errors around the site or weird extra terrestrial happenings, just be patient. It's probably me on all fours tweaking codes or rewiring the cables or maybe even ripping the RAM out and literally RAM it with my imaginary bulldozer! Yeah, it does get pretty intense! Let the work begin! will send an update when it's done :)

If you're too lazy to read the whole thing or very clueless at this point of time,
i think i can explain it in one sentence:
I'm remixing the servers with cool beats and making it better than the current server

time to get my geek on!

a lil add here and a lil add there

Feb 3rd, 2014; 3:44 pm (GMT+8) 0
if you guys didn't notice, i added small changes here and there throughout the site for the past few weeks. i even experimented on new posting ways. On the remixes side of things, i experimented on the Lorde - Royal mix (minus the animated gif). I was trying to emulate the look on iTunes whenever you click on an album and the tracklisting slides down. And for posting of new tracks, we added the listening widget over the artwork. But I'm still doubtful with some of the experiential looks. So expect more changes in the new few days, weeks, months and years.

In terms of information, you will notice that each remix post is linked to an artist page. That whole section is a lot of work. But i have it all mapped out deep deep deep down in my cluttered brain. I already played on the design of the page (a lil). See the Katy Perry's one for example. I'm not really really feeling it. So the final look might change totally.

In some of our new posts, you will notice a "Do you know?" blurp at the bottom. Whenever there is an interesting information about the artist or anything related to the track, i will just add it in.

One big feature that EVERYBODY is looking forward for is the Remix Submission System. It's going to be the main channel for remix uploads. It's going to be divided to a few sections: The Archive (to feature remixes from the 80s till end of last decade), Bootlegs submissions (Amateur/Upcoming remixers who wants to get their work out there) and Mash Ups. The survival of "The Archive" and "Mash Up" depends you guys! Because we are doing it the crowd-sourcing way! For the bootleg submission part, since we receive tons of bootlegs a day, not all will appear on the main site. So this section will be home for those mixes. And also, I will need volunteers to help out with the moderation process to make sure no double postings or very very very shameless promos and non fake files/virus). Will put up announcement, when the system is almost already. All files uploaded on the site by you guys will be automatically be pushed our Sharebeast account. So everything stays central. I'm still in the midst of programming that part but hit a roadblock. Will try other methods.

Speaking bout Sharebeast, did you notice the Sharebeast thingie on the right? So now, you will know Sharebeast is up or not. Every remix uploaded will be on one of those servers. If you can't seem to initiate the download once at sharebeast, you know why. But you can always come back and try again later. We check this every 15mins so you'll be always be updated...

stay tunedddd....

mixsets

the usual huge year end back log

Hey,

It's the time of the year again where we receive tons of mixsets. It got so crazy end of last year that i had no choice but to expand it from one posts a day (every 10:10pm +GMT800) to a DOUBLE DAILY DEAL to keep up. But until today we are still doing it to make sure there's no big backlog (every 06:06am and 02:02pm +GMT800). and YES! If you didn't notice, we love to play with our posts timings whenever we can.

Since mid November, i saw a increase and i knew it's happening again. But this time is more than i evert expected. We are getting a surplus of 2-4 posts! That's triple of what we post daily. (The US Govrnment will be so happy with any surplus to begin with - LOL RANDOM!). As the popularity of the site grows, the amount of submission really went up along But I'm sorry to say that I won't be increasing this limits as I don't want the site to be overwhelmed by mixsets. Plus it takes time for me to get it all scheduled and posted too.

To those who have submitted mixsets today, I think the earliest it will be up will be in end Jan or mid-Feb. So to those who have sent recently, please be patient. I'm already getting a lot of emails asking "Why is it not up yet?" or "Did you get my email?" and even sending the same email again and again and again. Please don't as it might push you down the queue by our mail filing system. So i hope this will explain why.

P/s: Just a form of reference: today's latest mixset that i have posted by Jor D was sent to me on Dec 2nd. And there are 2 more mixsets to post before i reach the Dec 3rd.

thanks for all the support and love,
