Kristinia DeBarge - Goodbye

May 12th, 2009; 9:00 pm (GMT+8) 0

Alrighty, I'm gonna intro abit on Kristinia's background. She's an American R&B singer, with a little dose of Pop too. Her father, James DeBarge, was a founding member of DeBarge, an R&B group in the 80s. Kristinia appeared on an American Idol spinoff, American Juniors, but did not progress into the Top 10.

Kristina broke into the US mainstream music market with her debut single "Goodbye". This song is also featured in a Nivea television ad campaign, which helps in promoting the song too.

Kristinia's debut album will be released by Sodapop Music, a new division of Island Def Jam Music. Many of the tracks were written and produced by Babyface. Her debut album is scheduled to be released on June 30th, 2009.

"Goodbye" is the debut single and was released to US iTunes on April 7, 2009 and to US pop radio on April 28th, 2009. It samples the song "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Steam. The song has already sold 75,000 downloads.

The song debuted at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 30th 2009. It is currently at position 42 and position 26 on the Pop 100 chart. Pretty impressive for a newbie.

The chorus is catchy, but kinda mild. I still prefer Esmee's stuff. That's my opinion. What do you guys think?? =)

Esmée Denters - Outta Here

May 11th, 2009; 7:00 pm (GMT+8) 0

Here's a new artist that is worth taking note of. Esmée Denters is a singer-songwriter first noticed on Youtube. At the age of 18, she is signed by Justin Timberlake as the first artist in his new "Tennman Records" Label. She's an opening artist to sing on Justin concert for his Europen leg of his tour in 2007.

She is working with Justin (definitely), Stargate and Ryan Tedder for her debut album, which will be out in May 22nd 2009 tentitively. She also will be touring with Enrique Iglesias and Alesha Dixon in the summer.

"Outta Here" is her first single from her debut album. It is out on Itunes April 14th 2009. My impression of her is that her music is kinda similiar to JoJo. As for the first single, it's a club banger. Would like to hear more of her new stuff soon. Looking forward. =) Enjoy!!!

*Update*
A remix to the song has surfaced!!!! Woots!!! The one and only Moto Blanco does a remix on this already hot track. It's like icing on the cake. This song is definitely my summer anthem song this year, both the original and the remix. Currently, only the radio edit of the remix is out though. Standard Moto Blanco production but it's a good mix. My predictions is that she's gonna be big, be it the song or the album too.

Speaking of the album, the track listing has surfaced and from the looks of it, it's my #1 album to look forward to this month. Tons of current hot producers are involved and she contributed in writing her own songs too. May 22nd 2009, we'll see. =)

Paula Abdul - I'm Just Here For The Music

May 8th, 2009; 5:26 pm (GMT+8) 0

I'm sure you guys are here for that right. =) We offer the best of music has to offer. Ok, enough of advertising. LOL. Here's a good song for the weekends. =) Paula Abdul performed this on the American Idol results show this week. Pre-recorded and lip synced. But she's sure good at her age. Song's catchy too. I like the direction that she's going. With the previous single, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" hit number 2 on the Billboard Dance Club Play Chart, this song is a sure club hit too. Can't wait for the remixes, should be hawt!!!

Originally recorded by Kylie Minogue in her "Body Language" era, this song wasn't released but I have her version in HQ. =) There's a part on the 2nd verse of Kylie's version that is kinda suggestive.

I guess Paula is a fan of Kylie's, first a snippet of "Boombox" with Paula's vocals was out early this year in Jan, now she covers Kylie's unreleased stuff. It's returning the favour I guess. (Paula co-wrote "Spinning Around" with fellow Idol judge Kara DioGuardi)

Noisette "Wild Young Hearts" Album Review

May 7th, 2009; 7:03 pm (GMT+8) 0

Wild Young Hearts is the 2nd album by Noisettes, released in the UK on April 20th 2009. Who would have known this is their 2nd album released, with the first interestingly titled What's the Time Mr. Wolf?. 2 singles have been released off the album, with the 2nd single hit number 2 on the UK singles chart.

First Impressions

rickified:
Attention is on them when they have a hit on the charts, thanks to being featured on an advertisment for Mazda 2 in Jan 2009 for the UK market. That song is "Don't Upset the Rhythm". Before having this hit single, they were kinda unknown. This proves that promoting a song on a wider demographic through media means is a good way to get out there and be heard. It helps that the song is catchy too. On a first listen, the album displays a wide variety of styles. They're not really an indie band, just marketed at that though. =)

Standout Tracks

  • Sometimes
Quite subtle for an album opener. I'm not saying every album should start with a bang, but this song shows lead singer Shingai Shoniwa's vulnerability in the vocals (The other 2 members are guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison). This song kinda leave me with an after taste.

  • Don't Upset The Rhythm -
2nd single. A catchy up-tempo. Listen to it and you'll know why it's a hit on the charts. =)

  • Wild Young Hearts
Title track and 1st single. Another uptempo. If being re-released, this song could chart well too. "Damn these wild young hearts". Love the lyrics.

  • 24 Hours
The chorus is so addictive. Have an 80's kinda vibe for this song. The "24 hours ago" lingo and hook in the chorus feels nostalgic.

  • Never Forget You
3rd single, to be release on June 15th 2009. There is an Elvis Presley vibe to this song, with Noisettes own twist in the lyrics. Good song for the summer.

  • So Complicated
Shingai sound like a lite counterpart of Macy Gray in this song. Hmmm. An up-tempo track.

  • Saturday Night
My fave song from the album. As this song suggest, it has a disco influence to it. Makes me wanna boogie!!! Very 70's. "You got the queen, I've got the ace". Should be release as a single.

Final Verdict

rickified:
With the album hitting number 7 on the UK album chart and receiving positive critics review of them, they are worth a notice. They written and produced every single track by themselves too. Impressive eh. =)

A record like this is needed from all the manufactured stuff that is going around these days.

Jada

May 6th, 2009; 5:58 pm (GMT+8) 2

A new feature!!! Hot and fresh!!! And it should be cause new, emerging breakthrough acts will be featured in this section.

First up is Jada, an American girl group from Boston, Massachusetts. The group is currently signed to Motown/Universal. The group consists of Elle Wine, April Forrest, Lauren O'Keefe and Jacyn Tremblay.

Now a little on the group's history. They were signed to Motown/Universal in the year 2006. But to date, the girls have yet to release an album with the label. The genres that the girls do are pop and R&B. It is reported that since signing with the label, the girls have worked with J.R. Rotem, Dallas Austin, Swizz Beats, RedOne, Akon, Ryan Tedder, Toby Gad and Wyclef Jean among others. Sounds good with these big name producers on town and the experience accumulated.

They have a song released previously in late 2007 on the "Bring It On: In It to Win It" mini soundtrack titled "I'm That Chick". (Not to be confused with the Mariah Carey song of the same title) In Feb 2008, Jada appeared with JoJo (Remember "Too little, Too late") at the Ultimate Prom, organised by Seventeen Magazine i guess. And some time in 2008, producers The Clutch and Danja have produced a song for Jada titled, Denial, and performed the song live on TV. The girls have also won Outstanding Pop/R&B Act Of The Year award on Dec 9th 2008. A first award for the girls, even though there isn't an album or a single on tow yet. Ironic or impressive. Hmmm.

Jada's debut single, "American Cowboy", was released on iTunes on March 31st. Written and produced by Akon and RedOne, known due to the shoutout hook in the beginning of the song, this song is quite a banger. Quite catchy for a first single though. The video of "American Cowboy" was released on April 25th. Their debut album would most likely release sometime in June 2009, according to sources.

On a first thought, Jada links me to Jada Pinkett-Smith (Will Smith's wife), of which that they aint related at all. This girl group sounds promising, with the demise of Danity Kane and PCD is threading on thin ice, they might shine. Obviously with proper promotion and stuff, and the right songs to boot, Jada is on the alert list now. =)
